This Is a Coliseum

lyrics

I’ve seen enough of this.
All my blueprints stacking up: hide secrets for a cut.
These lecture halls once filled me with applause.
They’re all manikins in strip-malls holding me accountable.
How can we rejoice in song without a place that we can call our own?

This is a coliseum dressed as a community: the lions keep to themselves. What does the plane see? Look at your own street.
Engine blocks roam free and nothing’s made for you and me.
How can we rejoice in song without a place that we can call our own?
This isn’t about crime and Rome. This is finding home outside of home.

All these materials for building up walls, four walls.
Are these places just postcards: stunning and false?
Oh my brother, my neighbour, my blacksmith, and author.
Oh my preacher, where art thou? Come out! Come out!

See how we sing.
